What Are You Drinking?!?

Green Smoothie

Written by Becki Andrus

Awhile ago, I was driving in my car and I pulled up to stop at a red light. I was running late that morning and didn’t get a chance to eat breakfast before I left the house, so I brought a quart jar of green smoothie with me to drink in the car.

Since I was stopped at the light, I took a moment to drink some of my smoothie… and as I set the jar down I noticed the guy in the car next to me waving for me to roll down my window. So, I rolled down my window, and he asked me:

“What in the h#@% are you drinking?!??”

I laughed and replied that it was a fruit smoothie with some greens added in, and it actually tasted pretty good.

His reply was: “Oh, like wheat grass or something like that?”

“Yeah,” I told him, “Kinda like that. And it’s great for your health!”

At that point, the light changed and so I drove away. I will probably never see the guy again, but it was a funny moment in time to see his reaction to something so unusual (to him). How often do you see other drivers guzzling down jars full of green stuff? 🙂

The moral of the story is this: don’t be shy or scared to step out of the “trend” that most Americans are living in. The Standard American Diet is dangerous for our health, and other people will notice as you change your eating habits. When you stop eating fake “food” full of corn syrup and refined white flour, you will stand out in more ways than 1.

People will comment on your healthy food choices at the grocery store. Friends and family will recognize that you are making different eating choices when you go out. Others will comment on how great you look, because they will notice that you have lost weight, your skin is clearer, and other health problems are going away.

These things might make you uncomfortable at first, but embrace the change.

It’s ok to be different. You are making positive changes, and your health will improve for it. Don’t let other people scare you away from stepping out of the mold of the Standard American Diet.
